Do you need to have the original "Spore" to play "Spore: Galactic Adventures"?

I want to buy the new game when it comes out, and its labeled as an 'expansion pack" of Spore...but I don't have the original Spore...so do I need that to be able to play this one? I've looked all over the Maxis website and it doesn't say whether you do/don't need it. Thanks for your help!Do you need to have the original "Spore" to play "Spore: Galactic Adventures"?
